• The Galileo thermometer consists of a sealed glass tube that is filled with water and several floating bubbles. The bubbles are glass spheres filled with a colored liquid mixture. Attached to each bubble is a little metal tag that indicates a temperature.
• The bubbles are calibrated by adding a certain amount of fluid to them so that they have the exact same density. So, after the weighted tags are attached to the bubbles.
• As the temperature of the air outside the thermometer changes, so does the temperature of the water surrounding the bubbles. As the temperature of the water changes, it either expands or contracts, thereby changing its density.
• The concept that 'decreasing atmospheric pressure predicts stormy weather' was postulated by Lucien Vidie -- and it's the basis for a weather prediction device called a storm glass or liquid barometer.
• A narrow spout connects to the body below the water level and rises above the water level, where it is open to the atmosphere.

The Tendency Barometer Storm Glass combines two traditional weather instruments with a hygrometer for a truly unique way to keep track of the weather. The wood frame on this historical weather instrument is stained in a rich mahogany finish, with a curved glass case. A tendency barometer, an Admiral Fitzroy Storm Glass and a hygrometer are mounted on a brass colored aluminum faceplate for a dazzling effect. How to Read the Tendency Barometer The Tendency Barometer consists of two liquid filled tubes mounted side by side, one is an open ended U-shape tube filled with non-mercury red fluid, and the other is a closed thermometer tube with blue fluid. When the red and blue fluid are at the same level, this means the weather is changing. When the red fluid level is lower than the blue fluid, the weather conditions will be fair (rising air pressure pushes the red fluid down in the tube). When the red fluid is higher than the blue fluid, the weather condition will be stormy (falling air pressure allows the red fluid to move up the tube).
